Once I discovered that a bicycle could be used for more than transportation, triathlon just made a lot of sense. And what a fun sport! I only occasionally blame my parents for not putting me on the swim team when I was young...</p> <p><b>5 things we should know about you:</b></p> <p>I like garden gnomes.<br /> My friends are what make triathlon amazing.<br /> I like to laugh.<br /> I work very hard.<br /> I love life.</p> <p><b>How did you first get into triathlons?</b></p> <p>My Dad decided we should race the Chicago (hometown) triathlon. I wore soccer shorts and spent about 10 minutes looking for my bike in transition (those things are big when filled with bikes!!!) It was a blast. We still race together to this day.</p> <p><b>What was the first race you ever participated in and what place did you finish?</b></p> <p>Chicago Triathlon. I don't think I ever even looked up my finishing place, but I was not first and I was not last.</p> <p><b>What is your favorite race?</b></p> <p>Escape from Alcatraz or Wildflower. Lots of dirt, hills and a solid, hard course. Buffalo Springs 70.3 ranks right up there as well.</p> <p><b>What is your favorite workout?</b></p> <p>Either 20 minute intervals on the bike or mile repeats on the track.</p> <p><b>What are your favorite Zoot products and why?</b></p> <p>Ultra Kalani shoes - they are feather light, but have all the cushioning I need. I feel like I am floating when I run in them. I actually sometimes specially save them for extra hard workouts because I think they have secret run-fast powers! And now my secret is out....</p> <p><b>What is your proudest accomplishment?</b></p> <p>Living life with no regrets and balancing life with triathlon.</p> <p><b>What motivates you?</b></p> <p>Challenged athletes, cancer survivors, people who overcome adversity and don't give up when it would have been so easy to just have a big pity party for themselves.</p> <p><b>What is your pre-race meal?</b></p> <p>Oatmeal and a banana.</p> <p><b>What is your pre-race ritual?</b></p> <p>I do a little dance in an Austin Powers outfit. Seriously?! I usually get to transition much earlier than required and then wander around wishing the race would start already and hoping I didn't forget [insert any triathlon item here].</p> <p><b>What is in your triathlon bag that you cannot live without?</b></p> <p>ZipVit gels</p> <p><b>What are your goals for the 2011 season?</b></p> <p>Get myself onto that podium!</p> <p><b>Events you are racing in this season:</b></p> <p>Ironman 70.3 Vineman (July 17), Whirlpool Ironman 70.3 Steelhead (August 14), Ironman 70.3 Ireland (September 4), Ford Ironman Arizona (November 20)</p> <p>Challenge Henley Full Triathlon (outside London) - Sept 18<br /> NY City Triathlon - Aug 7</p>
